Could Bill Frist be any more cynical and mean-spirited? He's planning a vote on a national ban on gay marriage for JUNE. As in, The Most Popular Wedding Month. The news media are focusing on this being an election-year move on Frist's part to rile up GOP supporters so they're good and ready to vote Republican in the fall. But that's to be expected. What strikes me as newsworthy is his timing: when all those senators are attending the formal white weddings of their hetero offspring, nieces, nephews, children of high-powered friends, many (though not enough) will vote to prevent queers from ever walking down those aisles. Nice one, Frist-rhymes-with-fist. As if you really needed to rub it in.
