Supporters of SB 1000 are now aiming their attack on the Oregon House. We know from what happened in the Senate that SB 1000 is a flawed bill with gapping questions and concerns that were completely ignored by Senate Democrats in their rush to pass this “historic” legislation.
Now supporters are asking House leadership to ignore common sense and push SB 1000 through, no questions asked.
Here’s what they aren’t telling the House about SB 1000:
SB 1000 is the most sweeping “gay” rights legislation in the nation.
SB 1000 makes same-sex civil unions the legal equivalent of same-sex marriage, by amending every Oregon marriage statute to include same-sex couples.
SB 1000 contains a very flawed exemption for religious institutions that will not protect churches.
SB 1000 takes sexual behavior and grants it the same legal classification as a person’s gender or skin color.
SB 1000 provides minority protection to gays, lesbians, bi-sexuals and transgender people.
SB 1000 even includes a provision for a “program of public education” to promote acceptance for these behaviors.

Is it all just to tame to perhaps argue that Mr. Bearden should have simply voided the marriage statute and thus achieved equality? Still can do it, with a round two, from a denial of a marriage license from Multnomah County. There is no need for hyperventilation . . or personal attacks. You are actually working against gay rights . . . don't you know?
