When good things get even better.

Jerry Falwell had just recovered from viral pneumonia in mid-February; a little before midnight yesterday, he suffered from "respiratory arrest". Let me just say - THANK GOD. When I saw the first report that he had suffered a heart attack (tunred out to be false) I couldn't help but wish that he would go into a "permanent vegetative state". Well that didn't happen. Though he did either stop breathing or his breathing slowed way down. Jesus! Let this man die!

Wishing someone ill... that's real tolerant.

Tolerance - what a concept. In all reality the world would be much better off without people like Falwell. You may not agree - I guess that's what makes America a great nation...

I'm not sure if either of you have been on the other end of the religious right. I have a suspicion that you have not been.

I know that Daniel isn't too fond of 'the gays' - how about you elastic? This will be a good place to start further dialog.

I know someone who holds that same view. I fully respect your view, although I do have a hard time understanding it. I especially have a hard time understanding the whole "community" problem with it. Actually I have problems with all of your views - again in all respect :) The thing is that when a person is so entrenched in their views (especially when regarding their religion) there is no meeting in the middle. It one way or the other. Neither party can come to a good conclusion and must agree to disagree.

Daniel and Elastic,
Instead of getting off track here and blessing us all with your thoughts about our sex lives, let's do a little reality check about tolerance, role models, and character. Perhaps you're not familiar with the wonderful Reverend Falwell:

"And, I know that I'll hear from them for this. But, throwing God out successfully with the help of the federal court system, throwing God out of the public square, out of the schools. The abortionists have got to bear some burden for this because God will not be mocked. And when we destroy 40 million little innocent babies, we make God mad. I really believe that the pagans, and the abortionists, and the feminists, and the gays and the lesbians who are actively trying to make that an alternative lifestyle, the ACLU, People for the American Way -- all of them who have tried to secularize America -- I point the finger in their face and say, "You helped this happen."
-- Rev. Jerry Falwell, blaming civil libertarians, feminists, homosexuals, and abortion rights supporters for the terrorist attacks of Tuesday, September 11, 2001, quoted from John F. Harris, "God Gave U.S. 'What We Deserve,' Falwell Says," The Washington Post (September 14, 2001)

AIDS is not just God's punishment for homosexuals; it is God's punishment for the society that tolerates homosexuals.
-- Jerry Falwell

The Jews are returning to their land of unbelief. They are spiritually blind and desperately in need of their Messiah and Savior.
-- Jerry Falwell, Listen, America!

The ACLU is to Christians what the American Nazi party is to Jews.
-- Rev. Jerry Falwell

AIDS is the wrath of a just God against homosexuals. To oppose it would be like an Israelite jumping in the Red Sea to save one of Pharoah's chariotters.
-- Rev. Jerry Falwell

While I, myself, would never wish someone dead, no matter how horrible they may be, to think that all of us could finally be free from the horrors that have come from Falwell's beliefs, well, that's a relief. One less hater.

Conversations/debates with people like you (not being rude) do not go anywhere. Our beliefs are so different on the topic of sexuality and sometimes even religion. You are calling homosexuality an addiction. That is completely unfair and honestly plain ignorance. I want you to provide me with where you get this information about homosexuality being an addiction (reference the Bible please).

I cannot even believe that you are comparing gays to alcoholism and prostitution. You holy rollers who are "Holier than thou" is just fucking ridiculous. Wake the fuck up. What world are you living in?

All of those quotes that were in her post were said by Rev. Falwell. He is an evil, hateful man.

As for do unto others - Christians (and this is a small generalization) persecute gays and lesbians. If you do unto others as you would have them do unto you" let's pass a constitutional amendment banning Christians from practicing their religions. Would that be cool with you? How hard would you fight that? I would join you in that fight because I believe that everyone should be free to live their life. Free to worship what they choose, free to love, and free to live. after all this is the United States of America.

If II was more awake right now I would continue, but I've got to get going on my real job :)

And you also realize that depending on which one of the hundreds of versions of the Bible you will read different things. I looked up Corinthians 6:9-11 and went through all of the different translations of it. Most did not say anything about homosexuals (I would also have to argue that word did not even exist when the Bible was written).

About the double whammy - a sin is a sin is a sin. No sin is larger in the eyes of God. If you lie it's just as bad as me having a relationship with my partner for 4 years.

Yawn.
Are we done with the spewing of bible-isms and self-righteous my-god-is-better-than-anything-you-believe and move on?
I'm so done with the bible thumping.
Don't you have a church to go to or something?

Elastic - I grew up in a Christian home. Some of the best paretns out there. They could not be more loving and supportive. I went to Christian school and understand the teachings of the Bible - at the same time, I feel that there are problems with the fact that people use it to make 'judgements' on others. Listen. Love is love. I do not think that love bewteen gay couples in any different that a love that you may have for a member of the same sex. That's it. We don't have to agree on this. Just know this - me being gay was NOT a choice I made. Unlike some may say - NO I was never molested. It's just me. I, Bryan am very happy. I love life. I am very succesful - and love is love. I couldn't imagine being a straight guy trying to understand the 'gays'. I'm sure it would be very hard, although I am not in that position. You and I need to come locser together on this. I understand that your faith is your faith and I 100% respect your religion. I just would hope that you could do the same and respect me as well. In all honesty I think that if we met - we would get along. At least that is ideal :) We really aren't much different as humans.
