Recap: Poor Zach & Love In Action 'Refuge'

I've noticed a lot of buzz on the net the past 3 days about Zach (the 16 year old boy shipped off to 'Love in Action' to 'turn him straight') and a lot of people have been coming to this blog using search terms related to him. So I wanted to give links to additional resources/coverage of what's going on...

Margaret Cho: A Letter to Zach
Gay.com: Youth's blog stirs uproar over 'ex-gay' camp
Cherry Blossom Special: Congratulations, Zach. You've Been Lied To. Again.
The Flypaper Theory: Love in Action: a losing battle?

This group is right in the middle of the Zach story. It seems as though they are the ones organizing the protests etc.: Queer Action Coalition

Bryon, for several days now the formatting of your site has been cuckoo. It's pretty hard to read.

DANIEL! So great to see you! heh.

But seriously - what do you mean? What part is wrong with it? Thanks.

See problems with formatting in my comments on your newer post.

RE: Zach

I heard about a similar thing. A group was protesting about a place some parents sent their kid.. what was it?
Oh yeah, it was the "legalize it" crowd protesting parents sending their child to rehab!

Thanks for the heads up on the formatting - what a mess. I just looked at it on a PC here.

Anyway - you are comparing the use of marijuana to being gay. That's just ridiculous and doesn't even need a response.

The child is a minor. His parents are responsible for him and if they want to send him to Christian camp, boot camp, gay camp, whatever, then that is there perogative. When he is 18 then he can do whatever he pleases within the confines of the law.

Yes Zach is a minor. Legally I believe his parents do have the right to do this. When he gets out will he emancipate himself? Yes, probably. I would do the same.

Daniel you have to think about the psychological ramifications on this poor kid. They first sent him in for a 2 week program. They have extended that for an additional 6 weeks for a total of 8 week - 2 months of hell at "Love in Action". Which by the way is the the most ridiculous name for an organization like this... funded by Exodus International BTW.

It's a joke. The only result that will come from this abuse is major psychological damage, emotional pain and the ending of his relationship with his parents. It's very sad that they have chosen to take this route. Very sad.
